About: This work closely relates to a group called the Italianate painters. These were a collective of 17th-century northern European painters, principally Dutch, who travelled in Italy and adopted the Italian style of landscape painting, whilst also incorporating Italian models and motifs into their works.

Chief among the Italianates were Bartholomeus Breenbergh, Jan Booth, Nicolaes Berchem, and Jan Asselijn. Italianate landscapes are often viewed as idyllic representations designed to pull the viewer into another world.
